AUC Resources

Committed to helping you understand and implement the Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC)

The AUC can help clinicians determine whether an imaging procedure is appropriate for detection and risk assessment of stable ischemic heart disease. The AUC are clinically useful for day-to-day decision-making, can facilitate quality improvement initiatives, and are used by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for accreditation reporting.

Astellas provides resources to help you implement the AUC. View More »

As of 2015, the 2009 Radionuclide Imaging (RNI) AUC are still in use, and the IAC still accepts these AUC for accreditation purposes. However, at some point in the near future, the IAC will transition to accepting the 2013 Multimodality AUC exclusively.

With the updated 2013 Multimodality AUC, the criteria have continued to evolve. Ten leading professional organizations collaborated to create these criteria, which help clinicians determine appropriate use ratings for 7 testing modalities for 80 patient indications.

To help you realize the best implementation of the AUC in your practice, we offer several useful tools:

  • Multimodality AUC App—The Astellas Multimodality AUC app* combines the utility of the AUC with the convenience of your smartphone or tablet. The app facilitates the use of the AUC to consider whether a cardiac imaging test may be appropriate for your patients. Download the app at AstellasApps.com.
  • AUC Tracker—Working in coordination with the app, this online resource helps you document and save data on how you are using the AUC and compare your use of the AUC to that of other clinicians. It also allows nuclear labs to export AUC use data for Intersocietal Accreditation Commission reporting. Register for the tracker at AUCTracker.com.
  • AUC Webinars—Presented live online, these programs give you background information on the AUC as well important information on their use in clinical practice. Each live presentation is followed by a Q&A session, allowing audience members to ask questions in real time. After the live presentation, each webinar is available on demand. View the webinars in the Resources section of AUCTracker.com.

*The 2013 Multimodality AUC app is based on the ACCF/AHA/ASE/ASNC/HFSA/HRS/SCAI/SCCT/SCMR/STS 2013 multimodality appropriate use criteria for the detection and risk assessment of stable ischemic heart disease. J Am Coll Cardiol 2014;63:380-406.

Visit AstellasApps.com to download the app. Then visit AUCTracker.com to register for the tracker and view AUC webinars.

Cardiac Testing Speaker Program

Committed to educating all the
healthcare providers who see heart disease

The cardiologist is generally not the first healthcare provider to see a patient with heart disease. Internists, family practitioners, emergency physicians, hospitalists, obstetrician/gynecologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants often suspect heart disease in patients who have not yet been diagnosed.

We understand the importance of educating these providers on assessment and evaluation. View More »

While many different healthcare providers see patients with known or suspected heart disease, they often are not familiar with the appropriate indications for cardiac imaging or how to integrate imaging tests into clinical practice.

As part of our commitment to providing educational resources, Astellas offers the Cardiac Testing speaker program. This non-product-specific program helps educate a diverse healthcare provider audience on evaluating patients and determining whether cardiac imaging is appropriate in each case.

This program includes a wealth of important information, including:

  • Initial patient assessment
  • Determining need for further cardiac evaluation
  • Risk assessment tools and guidelines for coronary artery disease
  • Appropriate use criteria for cardiac imaging
  • Preparing patients for cardiac imaging
  • The importance of communication between the cardiologist and other healthcare providers caring for a patient
